Newsflash.

Florida DI will participate in a Super Southeast Affiliate tournament this
season. This will be a fully virtual tournament.  It will give us the
opportunity to measure ourselves against teams from Virginia, North Carolina
and South Carolina (as well as some other states who may also be joining
us). Even though all teams will be scored by a combined affiliate appraisal
team, Florida teams will only compete with other Florida teams for placement
and advancement.

We are looking for volunteer appraisers who are somewhat "tech savvy". To
register as an appraiser, go to our Appraiser Registration

page.  Please also let me know if you are interested in appraising, so we
have an idea of who is interested in helping.  Appraiser registration must
be done by January 6.

There is still time to Start a Team
<https://www.floridadi.org/GettingStarted.html>  and be able to complete a
full solution by tournament time.  Remember that since team challenge
solutions will all be submitted virtually, it is possible for teams to
create their solutions virtually - in person team meetings are not required
to solve these challenges. All of the Team Challenges
<https://www.destinationimagination.org/challenge-program/2020-21-challenge-
previews/>  have now been published.

Instant challenges will also be solved virtually.  We have been posting
practice virtual Instant Challenges on our Facebook Page
<https://www.facebook.com/FloridaDI> .  Check them out for some fun
activities.

Virginia has offered to conduct a virtual Team Manager training in January.
They will also be posting copy of their training on their DIVA
<http://divirginia.org/>  website.

Registration for the tournament must be completed by February 1st.
Submissions for scoring in the tournament must be made by March 16th. More
instructions will be provided soon on procedures for submitting team
solutions.

Don't forget the grant opportunity for Middle and High School schools or
community groups with Title 1 populations in Broward, Collier, Glades,
Hendry, Martin, Miami-Dade, Okeechobee, Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties.

Foundation focuses its funding on STEM education, specifically in the fields
of technology and engineering. Through its grant programs, the Motorola
Solutions Foundation impacts underrepresented populations, including people
of different races/ethnicities, genders and gender identities, ability and
disability, and more.

This grant would cover most of the cost of participation in our program this
year, including membership and affiliate fees, background check, materials

As DII remains committed to the safety of our children, DII is administering
the Background Check process.  When you purchase your team number, there
will also be a requirement to purchase a background check from Sterling
Volunteers.
