We have an announcement from Destination Imagination, Inc. about an exciting opportunity for Middle and High School schools or community groups with Title 1 populations in Broward, Collier, Glades, Hendry, Martin, Miami-Dade, Okeechobee, Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties. Destination Imagination, Inc. has received a grant from Motorola Solutions Foundation , the charitable arm of Motorola Solutions. The Foundation focuses its funding on STEM education, specifically in the fields of technology and engineering. Through its grant programs, the Motorola Solutions Foundation impacts underrepresented populations, including people of different races/ethnicities, genders and gender identities, ability and disability, and more. This grant would cover most of the cost of participation in our program this year, including membership and affiliate fees, background check, materials and a Team Manager stipend. To apply for the grant, go to DestinationImagination.org/motorola . For more information contact kcelek at dihq.org or call 856-324-4710. Challenge Sneak Peaks are available for our challenges now. "First Looks" at the requirements are also available for download at the same link. Our Technical Challenge THE NEXT LEVEL will ask your team to go on an adventure in a video game, using technical methods to design a team-created tool to win an ultimate prize. A Scientific Law will be broken in our Scientific Challenge IN THEORY. Your team will create a documentary showing what the world would witness when a scientific law is broken. Music Video, anyone? For our Fine Arts Challenge EPIC REMIX, your team will mash together music and literature to create a music video. For our Service Learning Challenge, PROJECT PODCAST, your team will create a podcast that tells a story to highlight the amazing project you designed to meet a community need. CRITTER'S BIG ADVENTURE is the challenge for our Rising Stars (early learners preschool through 2nd grade, non-competitive). These teams will create a picture book about critters going on an adventure and share it in their team-created video. Our Engineering Challenge teams will create a video that explores architecture as art and showcase their team-created example of the intersection of art and architecture. Improvisational Challenge teams will create a video that shows the team investigating a mystery. The Technical, Scientific, Fine Arts, Service Learning, and Early Learning Challenges will be released on November 1, 2020. The Engineering and Improvisational Challenges will be released on December 1, 2020. Challenge solutions will be due in mid-March. If conditions change enough that gatherings are safe, we will have the option of on-site Instant Challenges and Celebration of Creativity. If allowed, we will hold our celebration at Park Maitland School on Saturday, March 27, 2021. Otherwise, we will conduct a virtual celebration and award will be mailed. As DII remains committed to the safety of our children, DII is administering the Background Check process. When you purchase your team number, there will also be a requirement to purchase a background check from Sterling Volunteers. There will also be an optional opportunity to purchase Team Manager liability insurance from NFHS for a discounted price due to our new partnership with this organization. For more information about DII this season, you can check out their FAQ page. Check out our Florida DI facebook page for Instant Challenges. These are great practice for teams and fun for others. DII has been offering a variety of Virtual Instant Challenges, so you can get a sense of what a virtual challenge can involve. We hope that you will send us photos of your solutions to these challenges! Also visit our updated FLDI webpage . Remember, we're just an email away at difl.info at yahoo.com Please do not hesitate to ask for assistance. Our best wishes for your continued health and safety, and we look forward to working with you to provide your children with a great creative educational experience this season.
